The Mittelhof Experience
Mittelhof offers a fascinating glimpse into the evolution of transportation from the mid-1800s pioneer farm era to the modern day. The site boasts a collection of wooden wheel bicycles, carriages and automobiles, as well as luxury and prestige cars from the 1920s to the 1940s. Visitors can learn about the engineering highlights, product features and design details of this innovative era. The collection also includes performance vehicles from the late 1950s and 1960s, providing insight into the life and times of these historical centuries. Situated on the former homestead of early German immigrants who relocated from the town of Mittelhof, Ohio, this unique exhibit is a must-see for anyone interested in the history of transportation.

Origin Story of MITTELHOF
The idea started when I first saw the 1966 Toronado that a family friend bought new.
The first time I saw the midnight blue with white interior Oldsmobile, I thought, “ Someday I’ll get one just like it.”
A short 25 years passed, and indeed I found one restored just like it.
Other family cars such as the 1968 El Camino caused the same reaction until I bought my first car, a lime green 1971 Cutlass hardtop.
As I worked on restoring it. I was dreaming of getting the same car as a convertible one day.
So I found one in very rough shape and spent many years restoring it with finally doing a frame off complete restoration. After 35 years of ownership, the Cutlass is like new.
The wooden wheel has always fascinated me. I was fortunate to find various wooden wheeled vehicles as well as a 1948 Packard Station Sedan, ( Woody).
It has long been a dream to find a Packard classic, and these became available. They will not disappoint.
We want to share a few other classics such as the pristine 1961 Rolls and a few performance cars just for some added zest. This needs to be fun!
My wife, Kim Borcherding Gaker, is a car girl just as I’m a car guy. She has been in the car business since age 16 and is just as excited to share these vehicles and their stories.
Our mission as a transportation gallery is too big for just a few car enthusiasts. It will require collaboration just as multiple spokes are needed to support a wooden wheel. It is our hope and desire that others are welcomed into this noble and entertaining enterprise as a way of honoring those who made this all possible, including the dreams they inspired when we were children.
